En effet, au début des années 1640, l’ancienne boucherie et la maison d’habitation étaient dans un très mauvais état et nécessitaient une reconstruction. Grâce aux travaux de l’historien Emile Woerth, nous savons que les travaux ont été confiés au charpentier Hans Schultheiss et au maçon Balthasar Schmalholtz. Un tailleur de pierre de Stotzheim réalisa l’ensemble des arcs et encadrements de portes et de fenêtres, tandis que les autorités sont allées acheter 98 livres de bois de construction à Strasbourg. Au rez-de-chaussée, l’une des fenêtres porte la date de 1642. Il s’agissait de l’entrée principale du bâtiment. Quant à l’étage, seul le pan de bois de l’oriel (malheureusement imbriqué dans un agrandissement disgracieux) et d’une partie du niveau est d’origine. Cet oriel est soutenu par une belle console sculptée aux armes de la ville avec une petite licorne.
